Filtronic establishes millimetre-wave centre of excellence at NETPark, Durham, UK.

Aligned with strategic plans to focus the Broadband business unit on the rapidly growing requirement for higher frequency technology and products, Filtronic has established a mmWave centre of excellence at NETPark, Durham.

The R&D centre is co-located with a precision, purpose-configured manufacturing clean-room focussed on the development and manufacture of mmWave and microwave hybrid assemblies for the telecommunications and defence industries. Significant investment has also been made into state-of-the art, automated high frequency test facilities - for both semiconductor device level characterisation and tx/rx module performance testing up to 90GHz. Following significant investment in an E-band technology program over the period 2009-2012, Filtronic Broadband is already a leading supplier of mmWave transceiver products at both E-band and V-band frequencies - shipping to several international OEM customers. With wireless data volumes doubling year on year through the roll-out of 4G/LTE services, increasing cellular backhaul capacity pressure is driving the need for ongoing product development and production to keep pace with market requirements.

Filtronic Broadband is now located at the North East Technology Park (NETPark), alongside other high-technology companies – at the following address:
